Week 34: Move in

Image
Done!  Mark and Kathy moved in this week and we can all take a breath and enjoy the finished product.  I'm very happy with how the whole project turned out, and Mark and Kathy couldn't be a greater couple to work with.

Week 33: Finishing touches outside

Image
Jampa came in to install the columns - crazon board verticals and stucco trim mouldings.  Can't wait for a picture of the finished product.  Mick continues odds and ends inside... getting ready for move in!

Week 32: Stairs and railing

Image
Mick likes to leave the stairs to the end for protection.  He did the stain and varathane this week, and Rand came by and installed the awesome looking, free floating with standoffs, stair railings and guards.  Beautiful.

Week 31: Plumbing Complete

Image
Tony finished up all of the plumbing fixtures this week, and we had glass and accessories installed.  Getting there!

Week 30: Counters and Backsplash

Image
Finishing touches are happening!  This week the counters and backsplashes were installed.  Adding the kitchen pendants and undercounter lighting and tada!  Kitchen!

Week 29: Cleaning Things Up

Image
Just like tidying up before the house cleaner arrives every week, we're also prepping the house for a deep cleaning by tidying up.  The counters are in and the plumbing fixtures have all been installed so we're just peeling back the grime to reveal the windows and floors that we haven't seen for weeks.

Week 28: Landscaping Continues

Image
Jampa and Thom continue to rock the landscaping outside!  I'm really happy with the fence and interlock.  As the week ends, we've turned our attention to the front of the house.

Week 27: One Big Tile

Image
That's not an illusion...and my tile setter, Fred, is Italian (not tall :-)) but not THAT short!  These massive tiles will be installed on the face and sides of the fireplace.  You can see Fred's progress over three days below... Outside, Thom's crew has begun the exterior landscaping.  First up was the porch nosing, followed by the flag stone - painstakingly laid out and installed. Jampa has started the fence outside... after working out many neighbour "inputs" and "feedback".... I think I saw his head

Week 26: The Kitchen is IN

Image
Right on time, Marana Kitchens arrived to install the kitchen, master vanity and small built ins next to the fireplace. Dermot's installer, Michael, worked a long day and got all of the custom closets installed. The front hall has Komandor sliding doors... I love the look and quality of these doors!

Week 25: Paint Continues

Image
Trim and doors are now done... next were the ceilings.  Once those were done, Kevin came by and installed all of the pot lights in the house.  Looking good!

Week 24: Trim and Doors Installed

Image
Trim and doors are now complete and Mick has made good progress on painting.  The trim and doors should be painted by early next week.

Week 23: Basement Floors and Outside Touches

Image
Mick has covered all of the floors and Jampa has started installing the window trim, door frames and baseboards.  By week's end, he was just starting the floors. Meanwhile, the outside is getting to a state where we can start landscaping soon.  Caulking was done, garage door installed and the porch ceiling was finished with some prefinished faux-wood look vinyl.  Jampa got so ahead that he was able to start the vinyl floors in the basement.

Week 22: Flooring Complete

Image
Jampa started on the beautiful prefinished floors (sorry, no pic!) and Fred put the finishing touches on the wall tile in the three bathrooms that have tile.

Week 21: Tile setter starts

Image
Fred was in this week arranging the dry pack of the tiled areas in preparation for the floors to be done.  By week's end, he had all the floor tile in and was starting on the walls.

Week 20: Cleanup and Tile Prep

Image
Priming is all done and the house is really starting to push past the half way mark.  A bunch of clean up was required this week... I like to keep the dust down and out as much as I can.

Week 19: Taping complete, priming the walls!

The tapers have finished, and the walls and ceilings are being primed.  We're getting set for the finishing stages of the build.  That means we are about halfway done - more... or less?

Week 18: Drywall installed

Alvarino's guys have completed boarding and the taping crew has started.  It's at this point that the rooms take shape, but they also sometimes feel smaller at this stage.... they get bigger when they are furnished!

Week 17: Insulation inside, aluminum outside!

Image
With the aluminum and caulking completed, the outside is looking great.  Mick was in early to do some soundproofing of key areas.  Meanwhile, George from Everest Insulation was in to spray foam all exterior walls and joist pockets.  This house will be nice and cozy and pretty energy efficient!
